View over the gardens of Schloss Hof

Prince Eugene’s gardens are planned after the French taste of the time and keep to a strict set of rules. Paths were systemised according to geometric principles, lined by topiary hedges. Viewpoints with sightlines leading into the distance alternate with secret garden spaces. Differences in level were artfully negotiated with stairs, stretches of lawn and playful fountains. A central visual axis forms the spine of the garden. Free spaces flooded with sunlight and embellished with flower beds alternate with shady groves.

We find all these criteria in the gardens of Schloss Hof.
