Plan of the overall ensemble of Schloss Hof
watercoloured pen and ink drawing, anonymous, 2nd half 18th century
The garden of Schloss Hof extends over seven artistically planned terraces. It was the most opulently designed ensemble in the Habsburg lands. The great number of fourteen broderie sections was spectacular – free, richly ornamented spaces artfully planned with flowers and embroidery designs – as were the mighty, shade-giving pergola arcades. The last and largest terrace, structured into four sections, shows a dense network of walking paths, leading to sunken lawns.
