Philipp Hafner (1731–1764), *Der Freund der Wahrheit, eine Kriticke der zufaelligen Gedanken ueber die deutsche Schaubuehne zu Wien", Vienna 1760
This pamphlet was written at the height of the ‘Hanswurst controversy’ in Vienna (1747–1783), in which Joseph von Sonnenfels (1732–1817) attacked the popular stage and the figure of Hanswurst. Philipp Hafner was against abolition and instead advocated aesthetic improvement of Viennese popular comedy.
