Hieronymus Löschenkohl: ‘Spring fête on a winter’s day on 6 February 1785’, coloured copperplate engraving
The ‘spring fête on a winter’s day’ depicted here was a theatrical festivity that took place in the Schönbrunn Orangery in February 1785
The picture was long believed to represent the famous contest between Antonio Salieri and Mozart, which in fact took place a year later, on 7 February 1786, and was also recorded by Hieronymus Löschenkohl.
