The Empreror's longest journey was to the inauguration of the Suez Canal in 1869, leading him through three continents. Amongst others, he visited the residence of the Sultan of the Ottoman Empire in Istanbul, underwent a pilgrimage to the Holy Land and scaled the pyramids in Egypt.
