Augustinerkirche, looking towards the high altar
Commissioned by Joseph II in 1784, the re-gothicization of the Augustinerkirche under the supervision of Court architect Johann Ferdinand Hetzendorf von Hohenberg is one of the earliest examples of Gothic revivalism in Vienna. The high altar is also Neogothic but dates from the reign of Emperor Franz Joseph and was originally intended for the Votivkirche.
