Apotheosis of Prince Eugene
etching by Jeremias Jakob Sedlmayr, 1731
In the centre is the figural group of the Apotheosis of Prince Eugene by Permoser. The sculpture is surrounded by opulent staffage and allegorical figures.
At left we see Minerva with a sheet of parchment, a book and a lyre at her feet. The goddess of Wisdom and Sciences turns to Hercules, who points to the sculpture of the prince. At right is an arrangement of trophies and symbols of the prince’s military and political achievements. Above these, hovering figures hold the prince’s coat of arms.
The caption invokes the strong and mighty genius of the prince.
