The Apollosaal, Vienna, 1808, engraving
The Apollo ballroom in the suburb of Schottenfeld was opened on their wedding day by Emperor Franz II (I) and his third wife, Maria Ludovika, in 1808. Intended for a predominantly aristocratic clientele, it lost its unique appeal in the face of overwhelming competition, fell into disrepair and was eventually turned into a candle factory.
